From mycelium flowerpots to building materials
Mycelium, the network of fungi, grows through a plant substrate and binds it together to form a solid, compact composite without synthetic adhesives. The mycelium itself is the binding agent.
Our first MVP, the beginning of our innovation journey, was a flowerpot. That's how "Mycaspo" started.
Mycelium-based building materials
Today we focus on building materials. From residual materials of Reishi cultivation and regional agricultural waste, we develop Mycotherm, our insulation panels made of mycelium composite.
After several trials and pilot projects. At the snow farming facility in Engelberg, we protected the snow with a mycelium-based cover. After four months, the results were very promising, the mycelium composite preserved 30% more snow than conventional geotextile covers.
Furthermore, we have implemented various pilot projects. They demonstrate how Mycotherm can be built into and installed in real buildings – and, thanks to measurements taken before and after installation, what temperature difference the material actually achieves.

The properties of the material
Circular and compostable: Mycelium composite is completely biodegradable. At the end of its lifespan, the material can be composted and returned to nature as a valuable nutrient – thus completing the cycle.
CO₂ storage: The mycelium binds CO₂ and stores biogenic carbon in the material.
Lightweight and robust: Despite its low weight, the material is durable and stable.
Moisture-regulating and breathable: Mycelium can naturally absorb and release moisture and allows air to circulate.
Regional: Our raw materials are residual materials from the region – renewable and without petrochemical binders.
Potential for design and more
Because the mycelium grows into a mould, shapes and surfaces can be designed according to needs and intended use. Besides thermal insulation, we see potential in acoustic insulation, interior fit-out, furniture and design objects – and in many applications that we have yet to discover.
Our "Mycaspo" flowerpots are available in our webshop.
